A weekend in the mountains

Tim and I recently went to Helen, Ga. for Memorial Day weekend - and it was also his 28th birthday that weekend! So we went up there and stayed in my family's sweet little cabin on the Chattahoochee River for a couple of days. It was a nice relaxing trip - and we had such a great time up there because it's so peaceful and literally like a little piece of heaven!

On the first day, we walked into town and went from shop to shop just admiring everything and taking in all the random folks...this is us right before we got to the main strip.



There were people EVERYWHERE - apparently the motorcycle gangs congregate in Helen for Memorial Day and Labor Day. That really didn't bother us, but their motorcycles were indeed loud!


And of course, Elvis had to come out and join the action...yeah, we were just as surprised to see him too.


We sat down on one of the bridges on our way home from the walk to town - of course a perfect opportunity to take some more pictures. Here's Tim giving me the 'are you done taking pictures yet because I'm ready to go' look :)


It was absolutely beautiful while we were there. The weather was perfect and just as clear as could be.

It was so nice to just sit on the deck and enjoy listening to the river rush by. We grilled steaks at night instead of eating out - it was much better than fighting the crowds. Here's Tim multi-tasking by talking to his father on the phone and grilling...



We also went tubing one of the days we were there. It was an interesting 3 hour event - one that I had enjoyed countless times before - but it was Tim's first time 'floatin down the Chattahoochee.' The water was just right, not too cold, but it wasn't as high as I think it should have been either. We were constantly getting caught on rocks and getting stuck! But we had a blast, and Tim who doesn't normally do the whole lake/ocean/river thing really enjoyed it! I unfortunately don't have any pictures of us tubing because we didn't want to risk ruining the camera, but we had fun. I do have a picture of some tubers though - they really start early. And they keep going until late in the day too! Here is a few guys beginning to trickle down at 10 a.m. one morning...


Tim couldn't get enough of the river! He got in the water and waded to the other side from the cabin to get rid of some debris and limbs that had accumulated on the rocks. While we were there, we had promised Grandmother that we'd take care of any housekeeping that needed to be done at the cabin - and this was one of those things. It really looked a lot better once he got all that stuff out of there...and of course I'm on the deck taking pictures of him :)



All in all we had a great time! Didn't want to go back to reality - but who ever does? :)
